in one document.
REALI – the Resilient Ecosystems and Agricultural Livelihoods Initiative, is Green Leaf Kenya’s first pilot: 10 community groups turning abandoned sand-mining sites in Kabondo, Rachuonyo East into community-owned demonstration farms, using vertical and hydroponic systems that don’t depend on the damaged soil.
The concept note is the complete case: the problem and its evidence, why this model, the five implementation phases, how we manage risk, and what the pilot aims to prove. It reads in about ten minutes.
Inside the note:
- The context: what valley sand mining did to this land, with county-sourced evidence
- Why vertical and hydroponic farming, and why we don't wait for soil to heal
- The five phases, from community baseline to monitoring and learning
- Site safety, risk management, and long-term sustainability
- What the pilot aims to prove, and what comes after
